Confucious studied ancient Chinese writings from which he took some ideas. Confucius was the first teacher in Chinese history to provide private education to the public, based on the concept of “teaching according to natural aptitude.” He tried to interest people in ideals of love, openness and moral behaviour. Confucious believed that man was naturally good and could live in harmony with other people. As Confucius began to educate himself, he proclaimed that people of all classes should have access to quality education to better their lives. For the disciples of Confucius, he was the living embodiment of a sage who leads others through his virtue and they recording his sayings, which eventually were edited into a book we know in English as "The Analects". Today, millions of people worldwide adhere to the principles of Confucianism.
His students and future generations were deeply touched by his righteousness, kindness, humility, courtesy, loyalty to the country, and caring for others. In China, Confucius is honoured as “the greatest sage and teacher.” His guiding principles for human interactions, one of China’s most cherished legacies, greatly influenced the Chinese people and culture for 2,500 years.
